How do I make a gift in memory or in honor of someone?
You can designate your gift in memory or in honor of a special person by completing the online donation form or you may make your check payable to: Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara. Please provide us with your name and address (so we can send you a receipt), the honor/memorial name and the address for the honor/memorial card. We will make sure those honored are notified that a gift to the Cancer Foundation has been made. Memorial and Honor gifts are identified in the Cancer Foundation Annual Report. Can I donate stock to the Cancer Foundation?
Yes. Granting appreciated stock is a smart way to save on capital gains tax while helping the Cancer Center fund vital research programs, compassionate care and emerging technology. Please contact our gift planning office at (805) 898-3620 for more information.
Will I receive a thank you note and receipt for my gift?
Yes. After making an online donation, you will receive an immediate confirmation and thank-you message. Gifts made by mail will be receipted and acknowledged by our development staff.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes. The Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and gifts are deductible on federal tax returns subject to the limits allowed by the Internal Revenue Service (see IRS Code 170). A copy of the letter documenting tax-exempt status is available from the Philanthropy Office.
Will the Cancer Foundation apply any part of my gift to administrative costs?
Nothing is withheld for administrative costs from a contribution that is directed to a specific program area. For unrestricted gifts and special event contributions, a small amount is applied to fund-raising expenses. Overall, the Cancer Center’s cost per dollar raised has averaged only 8.4¢ in recent years, well below the industry guideline of 25¢ per dollar raised.
How can I take advantage of my company’s matching gift program?
You can double or further multiply the impact of your gift if you are an employee, retiree or director of a corporation that matches gifts to qualified institutions. Please contact your Human Resources department and ask if they will match your charitable gifts.

What opportunities are there for recognition?
We are pleased to recognize our partners in the fight against cancer. With your approval, recognition of your gift reflects our shared commitment to eliminate cancer as a major health threat and serves to inspire other donors. Donors are recognized by membership in a variety of giving clubs and societies, depending on the type and size of gifts. Sponsorship of special events often offers opportunities for recognition in program materials and media coverage. Naming opportunities are available for endowments and for the construction of major renovation of facilities. In accordance with Cancer Foundation policy, guidelines have been established for the recognition of significant gifts with naming opportunities and various types of publicity (such as publication in the annual report, press releases to the media and placement of plaques or signs).
